Citywide clean-up day planned for Florence

The city of Florence will host a a citywide clean-up event Saturday, May 11.

Volunteers are needed to help pick up littered streets.

Volunteers will be provided vests, bags, gloves, breakfast and lunch.

Groups can call ahead for a designated area or show up at the Florence-Lauderdale Coliseum Saturday at 8:00.

Committee to discuss Florence capital projects today

City Council's Finance Committee is meeting today to put the finishing touches on a capital projects budget.

The committee --; Council President Dick Jordan, and Councilmen Blake Edwards and Barry Morris --; will meet with city Treasurer Dan Barger and Johnny Dill, a representative and Joe Jolly and Co., which is the city's financial advisor.

Jordan said recently the council likely will go to the bond market for the money, which could be as much as $18 million.

Florence Police Dept. looking for new officers

Florence Police Dept. looking for new officers

Florence, AL (WAFF) - The Florence Police Department is looking to fill it's ranks, and they're reaching out through social media.

The department posted a job description on their Facebook page Wednesday morning, saying applications were available at the city's Office of Human Resources at 110 West College Street for the next 30 days.

The posting includes the physical demands of the job, the annual pay and hiring process.

Art-ism, exhibit showcasing work of special needs artists

April is Autism Awareness Month and this exhibit showcases work by special needs artists of all ages from throughout the Shoals area. 

Join us at the Southall-Moore building Saturday, April 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 28, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Volunteers will be supplied with vests, bags, gloves, breakfast, and lunch.
